Sporting Clays

Come join us for fun and challenging Sporting Clays shooting all year 'round at Skyline Gun Club - the #1 full service clay target shooting facility in all of Idaho. Our 12-Station Field Sporting Clays course is open from April through September. 5-Stand Sporting is always available, including our Monday night Winter League - shot under the lights - exciting and different!

October through March offers a second 5-Stand field with challenging targets.

The club has just purchased 3 more Promatic Super Sporter automatic traps, providing for a minimum of 12 fully-automated stations starting in April. The new TOWER, with two traps at 50+ ft. above road level, should be in service by start of Summer league the second week in May.

You may see one or two "three trap" super stations at various locations around the course starting this year. Be ready to really pay attention!

Check the "Upcoming Events" schedule at Home for the tournament schedule.

Course Description

For those planning a visit to our facility, the Skyline Sporting Clays course winds around several large lava outcroppings, but is otherwise mostly in open area with sagebrush. The lava flows create about a 20' elevation change around the course, and provide interesting target presentations with traps on top of the hills or hidden on about half the stations. We'll get some pictures posted shortly - check back soon. The new tower is under construction with completion anticipated prior to start of Summer League in May.

A typical season sees the course set to a fairly easy level (if report pairs are shot) starting in April. By mid-June, expect to see 2 or 3 "tournament level" stations, 2 or 3 "mild" stations, and the balance in between. For practice you can always choose to shoot singles or report pairs if you want it easier, or if more challenge is required, feel free to "Shoot 'em the hard way!" as Rick likes to say, that is, shoot the true pairs reversed from the obviously easiest way. With a bit of imagination, you can adjust the difficulty to your liking. The course always offers a wide variety of presentations to choose from.

50 or 100 target rounds can be shot over 10 to 12 stations. Suggested menus for both are provided at the shooting cages. The menu boards also feature station layout diagrams to assist in understanding where the traps are, and what type of target trajectory is being presented. Just so no one is waiting to shoot, shooters are allowed to shoot practice at only one or several stations as their needs dictate.
Sporting Games and Shooting Courtesy

Informal "Skins" games are often organized, with rules for different stations usually made up "on the fly," such as "You have to shoot the left target first in this pair" or "You have to wait until the teal is dropping to shoot it" or other such frivolity. For safety, all shooting must be from inside the cage window at each station.

Note: Please remember to keep track of your target count if you choose to shoot sequences not on the menu, and pay for any extras you shoot. The club is doing its best to keep the fees reasonable, and paying for all the targets you shoot goes a long way to ensure that. Thanks.
Shooting Lessons

Speaking of rust, why not call today to arrange a tune-up lesson, BEFORE the league starts and the first tournaments of Spring are "next weekend". Call Rick at the club to arrange a lesson with our NSCA Level II Instructor, Randy Lloyd. Randy is also ATA-Certified, and NSSA Skeet Instructor qualified. Lessons are available for individuals at $50/hr, or small groups (hourly discounts), by appointment. Instructional fees for Juniors (18 and under) are discounted to $35/hr to help promote and develop youth participation in the clay target sports.

So, come on out and shoot already! Red Course and Blue Course shooting positions are being considered for the course for this year - two separate shooting cages at each station, providing different levels of difficulty for those shooters wanting an additional challenge.
